Old Man Frat

So darned if we didn't find the ol' Brotherhood Manuel from *way* back in the day.

And oh with the overzelous highlighting, Pledge Boy Bitch.

MEN MUST WANT. Check.

A good vigorous handshake can be the difference between a successful first impression or a week one. Check.

The ideal brother: Accountability. Attitude. Experience. Personality. Punctuality. Sportsmanship. Check.

Our favorite? And yes, we actually highlighted it...

It is never OK to force yourself on a woman, even if:

1. She teases you.
2. Dresses provacatively or leads you on.
3. You've had sex with her before.
4. You've paid for her dinner or given her expensive gifts.
5. You think women enjoy being forced to have sex or want to be persuaded.
6. The woman is under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

how come fraternities are the only organized way in which men are given straight-forward rules on how to be "gentlemen," and yet most men spend their time in fraternities acting their least gentlemanly, what with doing No. 6 (or trying to) every single fucking night

Rape was our nemesis in college. We spoke at Take Back the Night and one of our (college) girlfriend's roommates was a victim her freshman year.

So it was our thing to make sure it didn't happen in the ol' frat. Because boys are idiots.

True story: we once asked a pledge what he would do if he found out a brother had raped a woman.

"First off, I'd ask him if he had a good reason..." the pledge stammered.

He clearly wasn't serious and was more with the nervous pledging, but still.

the girls in college are just as big of idiots as the boys. they use drugs an alcohol to negate their sexual exploits and continually put themselves is stupid and dangerous situations. I am not saying by any stretch of the imagination saying that anyone's behavior is excusable, but you take a bunch of teens (and that is really what most college students are), put them on their own (most for the first time ever), and throw in some drugs and booze... of course the shit will hit the fan and no one is without some amount of blame.

and of course your pledge stammered. even i know frats stress brotherhood above all during pledging... pledging is a loyalty test. he is in one mind set that is currently being drilled into him and you want he to answer he would turn on his bother? seriously, he's a kid trying to be accepted.
